How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“We just had our wedding at Deity in April 2024 and couldn’t be happier with how our special day went. The planning process: After we toured the venue, we knew Deity was special. The pricing was very transparent and super reasonable considering everything that’s included – the venue (lounge, loft, and basement), day-of coordinator, food, 50 bar credit pp, basic décor package, and DJ. The space is gorgeous and so unique, unlike any other venue we’ve attended as guests or toured. Each floor has a purpose and accompanying vibe to match – the bridal suite is relaxing and picturesque (highly recommend adding this to your day for an added cost), the cocktail lounge is dreamy, the ceremony loft (and dinner space) is bright yet cozy, and the basement dance floor is funky and fun. Because the venue was already beautifully designed and all inclusive, the only things we needed to provide for the ceremony/reception were signage (welcome, table arrangements, his/her drinks), minimal décor/flowers (we hired a florist for the ceremony arch and did bud vases for the tables and they turned out beautiful), and dessert. Some (including me) may be nervous about all-inclusive venues, however Deity was so accommodating to the little ways in which we wanted to make our wedding unique, such as incorporating cultural outfit changes into the schedule to setting up a late-night instant noodle bar. Finally, Anna, the coordinator included with the venue, was a godsend. She made the whole wedding planning process so much easier, patiently answered all my random questions, and provided guidance where needed. The day of: Our family and friends were blown away by the bridal suite. We were relaxed the whole morning while getting ready and got some beautiful photos to start off the day. Once the day started rolling, Anna and the whole Deity team were on top of everything. They made sure everyone was on schedule but also were flexible with last minute changes, even making sure my husband and I had private moments to ourselves. The food was delicious and plentiful. We had so many guests compliment the cocktail hour bites and dinner service, even our very picky grandma said it was the best salmon she’s ever had. The drinks were flowing and we had guests commenting on how drink service on the dance floor was genius – everyone could continue dancing and no one was ever waiting with an empty glass. Also, my husband and I were initially nervous about an in-house DJ because we are very picky with music but DJ BenHaMeen was amazing, listened to our wants and needs, and kept the dancefloor lively (our photographer even complimented the music!). All in all, we cannot recommend Deity enough. Our guests are still asking if we can have a wedding there every year (we wish!).”

“WILLOWDALE DELIVERS ON EVERY LEVEL!!! We could not have imagined a more perfect day in our wildest dreams and the Willowdale venue and team were a HUGE part of that. The Coach House Suite was beautiful and clean and a great way to start our day. The mansion and surrounding park showed off for our fall wedding - the landscaping was impeccable, the set up under the tent made our mouths drop, and the team (with special shout out to Jeanine) executed every one of our many details. The food was delicious - like actually good not just good for a wedding. The whole team at Willowdale was calm and knew how to execute on the day-of. They made having our pup there for the ceremony easy and meaningful. They also have a great list of star studded vendors (especially our DJ - Mark Dixon!). The team also ensured we could incorporate cultural traditions seamlessly. And the cookies!! Could not recommend more highly! One tip for the brides with a million details - the Willowdale team is incredible, but they do not have the capacity to plan all your details (they are too busy killing it for the couples getting married that month at the venue). If you have a lot of moving parts, might be worth a planner.”

“We got married a week ago at Walden and I cannot say enough about how positive an experience it was! Krystle and Alyssa (our dream team of planners) were our saviors throughout the entire planning process. I hadn't planned on using a full service planner until I found out Walden included them in the venue rental and now I can't imagine planning a wedding without them! They truly made the entire process fun, even during the more stressful parts. The rest of the Walden team is equally as amazing - the catering staff delivered some of "the best food we've ever had at a wedding," as many of our guests raved to us! The bar team also ran such an efficient operation that there was rarely ever a line for drinks, so rare at a wedding! Both teams worked with us to accommodate special requests and really felt like they prioritized making our day feel unique and special. The space itself is gorgeous and requires very little extra decoration, which is a great money saver! The separate spaces for ceremony, cocktail, and reception really made each part of the evening feel special. One of my favorite parts was the getting ready room - so rare to find in a Chicago city venue! My girls and I all had the best time getting ready in the space and it made for a very relaxing morning to already be on site. I could write 1,000 more words about how amazing this venue is but trust me when I say that if you want to alleviate as much stress from planning your big day as possible - Walden is the venue for you!!”

Founded in 1814, The West Boylston Company was a large textile manufacturer in West Boylston, MA. At the turn of the century the company faced a crisis: the site of their mill would be flooded to form the Wachusett Reservoir. Instead of abandoning the mill, the company dismantled it brick by brick and shipped it to its new home in Easthampton, where it was rebuilt on the banks of the Lower Mill Pond. “I could not say enough good things about this venue. We're SO glad we decided to get married at The Boylston Rooms! The pictures show for themselves how beautiful the venue (and surrounding areas for photography) are, but the staff are what make this place extra special. From start to finish, everyone we worked with was nothing but professional. They were clear and timely communicators, helped troubleshoot things during the planning process, and came with loads of wedding wisdom that helped set us up for success on the big day. When the big day came, I also appreciated how often their staff checked in - even to make sure I was eating (it's the small things!) - and were ready to jump into support anywhere. A special shout out to Myles, who played a supporting role during our wedding portraits, helping me to keep my very long veil under control! A few other things I'll mention: - Their storage room filled with decor you can borrow is SO helpful. Less that you need to buy (and potentially waste post-wedding) and can even make decision-making easier when there are 1,000 versions of the same item online. - Their wedding suites are great to have available too. Obviously for getting ready, but it's also a nice reprieve if you need a quiet moment during the reception. - The Boylston Rooms only works with one caterer, Myer's Catering. Our guests are STILL raving about the food. (There's more flexibility with other vendors). - The Boylston Rooms also owns/is affiliated with The Wedding Day Trolley, which we used to transport our guests to/from the hotel. My partner and I also took some super fun photos inside of the trolley!”

“My mother and I had a joint celebration of our birthdays around late September last year. The venue was everything we could have dreamed of. Since it is situated in Roosevelt Island, it was the perfect venue to get away from all the hustle and bustle of the city and yet still get a beautiful view of the Manhattan Skyline. The team was also very friendly and supportive to all of our requests and questions. They made sure that our event will go accordingly to what we have envisioned. This lovingly restored historic barn is turnkey with all the modern amenities that include heat, air conditioning, handicap accessible elevator, surround sound, AV, wireless microphone, and theatrical lighting inside and out. Rain or shine, we can accommodate an indoor or outdoor ceremony and a seated reception indoors for up to 225 guests all year round. We have a lovely brick patio, outdoor lounge seating, a s'mores cauldron and a four sided fire pit for those perfect Minnesota evenings. “Donauschwaben's German-American Cultural Center was the perfect venue for our daughter & son-in-law’s wedding. The location to the airport, highway and hotel were ideal. Their property provided plenty of parking. The wedding was outside on a 92 day and was flawless. It was hot, but the trees were in the perfect position to shade the entire patio. The entire staff was amazing. The reception space was transformed into a beautiful space for our special celebration. Our family and friends shared with us how delicious the appetizers, meal and “aftertizers” of the homemade pretzels. Christine the Event Manager went above and beyond and made sure the day was special for everyone. She answered all of my questions, even up to the last minute. We were so impressed with how many times Christine checked in with us to make sure we were happy. We highly recommend Donauschwaben’s German-American Cultural Center.”

Also, most of our guest were coming in from out of town, so it was important to us to have a fun area with lots of restaurants and accessibility without a car. “From the moment we stepped foot at The Wheeler House, we knew this was where we wanted to get married. There's something to offer every couple, from the historic house with beautiful wrap-around porches and a pool table for the groomsmen, to the outdoor ceremony space with newly installed turf and tall trees, to the breathtaking barn with high rafters and draping. The staff is professional and our coordinator, Emma, went above and beyond to make sure our day went off seamlessly. It's a common misconception that you sacrifice quality with an all inclusive option but that couldn't be farther from the truth with The Wheeler House. We will be recommending this venue along with our family & friends over and over again. Separately, our wedding party stayed at The Wheeler House Cottages for our entire wedding weekend and it made our experience so much more enjoyable, continuing the celebrations after the wedding and having everyone in one place for ease. “I can’t say enough wonderful things about our experience at Flagstaff House for our wedding! “I chose ICC for my bridal shower venue because the venue is absolutely gorgeous! I loved the large venue spaces, beautiful landscapes through the windows, and overall airy feel! We ended up picking the Lyons room because it was spacious but not overwhelming. The natural lighting was gorgeous. Everything from the initial tour to the final product was gorgeous. All the staff members were incredibly kind and helpful throughout the process. Even when we came to set up the morning of, some wonderful team members were already helping to put favors on the table exactly where we wanted them (it’s like they read our minds!)
