Bowling Brook Mansion

4.3

Keymar, MD
  • Up to 175 guests
  • Select services
  • Indoor & outdoor
  • Starts at $4,000

Famed, Elegant and Unique! Renovated from farmhouse to Mansion in 1872, Bowling Brook was one of the most significant horse training facilities in the nation boasting 7 Preakness winners. The mansion has been fully restored with elegant finishes while maintaining the original historic detail and charm. Located in Carroll County, Maryland and minutes away from Frederick County, Maryland.

Why you'll love this venue

  • Provides a dedicated team on-site
  • Combines timeless elegance with history
  • Classic elegance

Venue considerations

  • No in-house lighting and sound packages available
  • No in-house catering options
  • Not for you if you are drawn to more unconventional venues
Bowling Brook Mansion is incredible! This is a truly special venue. We offer our strongest possible recommendation, and our earnest thanks, to Debbie and her staff for making our wedding day more beautiful than we had ever imagined. The venue itself is gorgeous. The mansion is colorful and picturesque; the indoors are classy but not cluttered; the grounds are sprawling and luscious. We held our ceremony in a gorgeous, decorated, wooded grove, and took photos throughout the surrounding farmlands. We were very happy with the amount of space our guests had available to roam and mingle inside and outside the mansion. The ballroom was spacious, and with a cool summer evening, we were able to open an outdoor patio/tent area for guests to socialize. Also, when the evening wound down, we went to the roofdeck with close family and friends for a late afterparty under the stars—a gorgeous night in the countryside! Debbie and her staff are amazing. We can’t say enough about Debbie herself. She treated us like a member of her family, not just another customer. She was also easy to reach and easy to talk to throughout the planning process. She worked to understand our needs and sincerely respected our vision for our wedding, making several accommodations for our plans—such as permitting us to select off-list vendors, working with our family’s arrival time needs, and allowing us to stay in the honeymoon suite before the wedding. On our wedding day, she stayed on top of managing the vendors so that we could focus on enjoying ourselves. We owe a special thanks to Debbie’s staff for helping out in the aftermath of a hurricane. During the week before our wedding, the remnants of a tropical storm swept through Maryland. We were very worried that we would have to commit to an indoor ceremony, but the storm cleared late on Friday night, and Saturday was temperate and picturesque. Debbie and her staff arrived early Saturday morning and worked very hard to get the mansion and the grounds ready. Their hard work made our wedding day everything we wanted it to be. Thanks again to Debbie and her team. If you’re getting married in Maryland, we earnestly encourage you to consider Bowling Brook! (Photo Credit: Tom Bennett Photography)

I honestly can't say enough amazing things about The Antrim 1844 Hotel! We had the most incredible wedding experience here, and I'm so grateful we found this gem. We actually heard about Antrim from a coworker whose family had their wedding there last spring. It wasn't even on our radar before that, but now I can't imagine our wedding taking place anywhere else! During our planning process, we got to see so many different weddings they were hosting, and I was blown away by their unique ability to make everything from small intimate gatherings to expansive celebrations not just work, but work beautifully! They really know how to adapt to each couple's vision. Working with Jill was such a joy! She made the entire planning process feel effortless and actually fun. She was so flexible with all our changes and took the time to walk us through backup plans for weather, which gave us such peace of mind knowing we were covered no matter what. We got lucky with lovely weather and got married in their rose garden, and oh my goodness - it was so breathtakingly gorgeous that we barely needed to add any decorations! The natural beauty spoke for itself and created the most romantic, dreamy backdrop for our vows. Having so many family members and friends traveling to join us, the wedding weekend stay option was a game-changer! The complimentary breakfast for overnight guests was such a thoughtful touch - it meant everyone could wake up together and start each day without any stress about finding food. It really made the whole wedding weekend feel like one big family celebration. The bridal suite in the main mansion was absolutely perfect for getting ready! There was space for our entire wedding party plus my mom and friends to get ready together, and it provided the most beautiful backdrop for photos. We got so many stunning getting-ready shots in that gorgeous space! The food was absolutely delicious - both during our tasting and on the big day! Our guests are still raving about it. The team worked so seamlessly with all our other vendors too, making sure everyone felt welcomed and taken care of. We were thrilled about the veterans discount, which let us add some extra special touches like a dessert bar, upgraded appetizers, and shade canopies for the ceremony. They made it so easy to customize everything within our budget. Every single guest has told us what an amazing time they had, and we're already excited to come back for anniversaries! We've heard their holiday decorations are absolutely spectacular, so we're definitely planning a winter visit. If you're looking for a venue that combines stunning natural beauty, incredible service, amazing food, and a team that genuinely cares about making your day perfect, The Antrim 1844 Hotel is IT. We couldn't have asked for a more magical place to start our life together!

Enjoy everything the farm has to offer! Walker's Overlook is the founding venue in the Overlooks family. We are very proud of our farm; the charm of the treelined drive, the stone house, and the allure of photographs in front of the vintage car which has been in the family for generations. We are excited to meet you and delighted to help you plan your perfect day! From the spacious bridal suite upstairs to the mancave downstairs there's so much more to the stone built colonial house than just great photo ops! The old walnut tree at the ceremony site is a gorgous backdrop to your vows with the rolling countryside and farmland of Maryland completing the perfect setting. Then reserve a sweet spot on the patio or inside the house for cocktails before dinner is served in the spacious tent. Complete with hardwood floor, the tent can accomodate up to 275 guests comfortably, and still has space for a large dance floor.

  • Space for a large guest list
  • Dressing room available

Walker's Overlook is a hidden gem and was the perfect venue for our October wedding! The ceremony area is absolutely gorgeous and provides an incredible backdrop for photos, while the reception tent offers a cozy, rustic vibe complete with wood floors and string lights. The owners, Mark and David, are the best. They are both super hands-on and were great to communicate with throughout the whole process. Mark checked in on us regularly during the year leading up to our wedding and made sure we knew exactly what to expect on the wedding day. One of the best things about Walker's is that they provide an in-house wedding coordinator, so we didn't need to hire a separate planner. Our coordinator, Tammy, was INCREDIBLE -- she knows the industry inside and out and made our wedding day completely seamless and stress-free. Walker's Overlook truly provided the venue of our dreams and I can't recommend them enough!

My Husband and I got married in June 2025 and chose The Christian Royer House, it was the best wedding decision we could have made. Michelle and Jerry are an incredible team. When we toured the venue, I immediately fell in love. The tour was thorough and Michelle was able to answer all of my questions. The booking process was so easy. While planning Michelle was on top of everything, continuously in touch with me sending me the forms, insurance, timelines, and a wedding planning organizer that mad planning a breeze. When it came for wedding day I was so relaxed and confident because everything was planned and taken care of. We got married on one of the hottest days of the summer and Michelle, Jerry and their team took care of us so well! Truly superstars. Not a single thing went wrong during wedding day, if it did, I didn’t know about it and I’m sure Michelle and my coordinator took care of it. The house is so beautiful and the perfect amount of space to get ready. We had a bridal party of 18, with several children, and many family members, there was space for everyone. The honeymoon cabin was the best thing we didn’t know we needed. Being able to stay at the venue in a peaceful cabin and wake up at our venue, enjoy some coffee on the porch before we left for our honeymoon was heaven. We booked a tour with Cold Saturday Farm on a whim, but holy cow am I glad that we did! We met with Brittany on a pretty dreary day in the winter, and even then I could see the beauty in the venue. It truly is a blank canvas that you can really make your own. Plus, the venue checked all the boxes that were super important to us: onsite getting ready spaces for both us, free onsite parking, guest tables and chairs included, and access to the venue all day. For the price, it was a great value. Brittany did end up leaving Cold Saturday, and we do wish that had been proactively communicated to us, but her replacement, Meredith, was fantastic, especially because she started the week before our wedding (I'm pretty sure we were her first wedding at the venue). But she was incredibly helpful and friendly--we actually had guests come up to us and tell us how awesome she was! The only other thing I wish we had known ahead of time was that the getting ready room the guys used didn't have any furniture. It was still being worked on during our tours, so we didn't actually see the room until the day of. So the room may have furniture at some point. Overall, we loved Cold Saturday Farm. It is truly a hidden gem (none of our vendors have ever worked there before but all of them said they loved it), so I really love that it was a pretty unique and beautiful place to have our wedding.

Our experience at Union Mills was truly exceptional. Our guests absolutely loved the venue, and we received countless compliments on the food. Everyone raved about what they ate and the pizza was a complete hit! Our guests felt well-fed the entire night and are still talking about the pizza. The mocktail was also a favorite, people couldn’t stop talking about it. Mary and Niko were incredibly kind and attentive throughout the entire planning process. They addressed all of our concerns with patience and care, and worked closely with us to create a menu that was exactly what we wanted for our guests. Niko went above and beyond by crafting a menu that incorporated items inspired by restaurants we love to visit, as well as dishes that reflected our culture. That personal touch made everything even more special and brought so much joy to our guests. The staff at Union Mills was amazing as well. They treated my bridal party so well and were attentive to every detail. We are so happy we chose this venue! Our wedding was an absolute hit, and it wouldn’t have been the same without the Union Mills team. Highly recommend! 10/10

When we started planning we wanted our day to be as stress-free as possible and fun so Attaboy was an easy choice. There was so much I loved about the venue, but here are some top considerations: Location/logistics- It was so easy to get everything and everyone to the venue and our guests loved how easy walking or parking was. Other vendors also expressed appreciation that they were able to get in earlier in the day and that it was easy to get to. Since it is off the creek, the outside area felt more intimate. There are also lots of cute areas to take pictures in the venue and just steps away. Aesthetics- the venue was beautiful! The simplicity of the set up really made our florals pop. They provided tables and seating which were perfect with our design. The whole space lends itself to so many different design possibilities. Also, since it is very cute/clean as it, we didn't need to go overboard with decor. Service- Anna was a huge help throughout the entire process. She made me feel confident that everything would run smoothly. She was also quick to address questions/needs. The day of the event all of the staff were wonderful. They were so friendly and fun!

Venue considerations

Zigbone Farm was the spiritual heart of our wedding. As soon as we booked this venue, everything flowed from there. Schedule, design and theme, decisions about other vendors and guest list — everything else became easier because this venue provided such a gorgeously strong anchor point in the middle of our special celebration. What more can you ask for? Every single vendor commented on the uncommon beauty and peace of this venue. We loved having our welcome dinner here on Friday night and having a local vendor make pizza in the cob oven. On Saturday when it rained, we didn’t have to worry because we knew the lodge house would beautifully accommodate our guests for cocktail hour and that the pavilion and event hall would be fine if the rain didn’t stop (it did, and we got a double rainbow!). On Sunday, we hosted a beautiful farewell breakfast. It was so wonderful to be able to have so many friends stay on site with us, and to have some space from them in the bridal suite. Not having to leave the property once during the entire weekend was such a blessing and kept things from feeling too busy or crazy. Marijke was our main contact and she was so quick to respond to any questions we had and really fun to interact with. She clearly loves this place and has a deep enthusiasm for the couples who celebrate there. Our guests who stayed on site felt so spoiled and kept remarking on how relaxed they felt, that it felt like a true retreat for them even amid a busy schedule of events. We really hope to return to Zigbone for a reunion one day, what a special sacred place. I cannot recommend it enough to any couple marrying. Especially as a queer couple, we felt deeply affirmed, safe and celebrated here. Thank you Marijke and Dena!!

We just had our wedding here on 9/27 and could not have asked for a better venue and experience. Us, our families, and our friends occupied all the houses, and it was the perfect space to create memories that will last a lifetime. Colby was amazing to work with. He made sure all our needs were taken care, communicated with all our vendors to make sure we didn't have to deal with anything, and even prepared things that we didn't even think of. He was calm, cool, and collected throughout the whole experience, and always was in communication with us to ensure the day went as we envisioned. The weather was iffy that day, and I expressed I really wanted the wedding outside, and he made it all happen with no complaints. We truly couldn't imagine having that weekend anywhere else and feel like we were treated like family. Highly recommend having any event here.
