How much do wedding & reception venues cost?

The cost of wedding venues varies, with factors influencing cost including size, location, guest count, and, most importantly, whether things like catering and rentals are included. The more a reception venue near you includes, the higher the cost. When considering venues, try to compare prices apples-to-apples. If one venue includes catering and rentals in their pricing and the other doesn’t, you need to figure out how much additional cost those outside vendors would be to make a true comparison. Before booking, be sure you’re aware of additional costs outlined in your contract, like parking fees and weather-related considerations (adding a tent, etc.).

What questions should we ask wedding venues?

When talking with a potential venue, always ask about 1) their availability and 2) their capacity. Some popular venues book up peak season Saturdays nearly 2 years in advance—if your first choice date isn’t available, consider your flexibility on day of the week and year. While maximum capacity is non-negotiable, venues might have guidance on what guest count will be most comfortable. Also, you’ll want to understand what is and is not included in the venue’s fees. Some include catering, tables and chairs, and linens, while others offer just the raw space. These venues are often less expensive because you are only paying for the space itself, and you’ll have to bring in outside vendors

“You generally only get one wedding, which means going into the day without knowing about a lot of the tiny details that go into making a wedding run smoothly. You do the research, you read the blogs, you study your friends' weddings and get tons of advice, but still you don't know what it's really like. The staff at Deity do--they do this every day. I could write about how great the space is, how much fun everyone had, and how reasonable the price was, and I'll get to all of that, but I want to emphasize what the pictures can't. Our wedding day ran smoothly and comfortably for us and our guests, and it's due to the staff at Deity. They anticipated our needs, gave us lots of helpful advice in both the planning stages and the day of, and went above and beyond to make sure we had the wedding we wanted. Anna, the coordinator, answered my endless emails and asked even more questions that hadn't occurred to me, and on the day of she handled everything so seamlessly I actually got to enjoy myself; Caio, the owner, gave our officiant (my brother) tips about when to move the mic for the smoothest possible ceremony, and made sure my train looked perfect right when I first stepped out into the aisle; and none of the staff batted an eye when I came down an hour before the guests were arriving to say I needed help hiding clues for a scavenger hunt that I had not told them I was planning. They made sure my husband and I got something to eat and a quiet moment to ourselves, they helped us load an Uber at almost midnight on a Sunday with all the stuff we'd brought. They made the whole day feel seamless and fun, and I cannot thank them enough. Also, so many of my guests made a point to tell me how good the food was. I'll admit, I was a little nervous about committing to the in-house catering without a tasting (we were lucky enough to get a sample from Chef James on our initial tour), but my fears were entirely unfounded. The passed appetizers were genuinely amazing, and the food served at the family-style dinner was tasty and actually hot, which I feel like is rare amongst weddings I've been to. They also were very helpful in accommodating our guests with dietary restrictions, including coordinating an order from a restaurant for a celiac guest, whom their kitchen wasn't equipped to serve. The bar was also great, helped us come up with custom cocktails, and there was cocktail service everywhere, including on the dance floor. When I factored in the food and drink to the total cost we paid for Deity, it's also a really good deal, compared to other local catering options! I won't say too much about the space because you can see it in the pictures and judge the vibe for yourself on a tour. But I will say that having different spaces for the different parts of the event was great, and having the suite for getting ready (and for retreating to when we needed a moment) was a godsend--not to mention wonderful for our photos! Sunset skyine photos without leaving the venue? Don't mind if I do! The location was great for both our in town guests, and those staying at nearby hotels. If you like the look of Deity, don't hesitate. I hope your wedding there turns out just as wonderful as ours!”

“First off, the wedding coordinator MELISSA at The Milestone Denton is godsend and 10000% deserves a huge raise and fat bonus for the amount of work she does and is so helpful in the planning process. She was very honest and upfront during the entire planning process. I am very Type A and for once in my life it was nice to have someone else in charge and I fully trusted her. She even provides recommendations when you don’t know what you want and will be honest with pricing. If it weren’t for Melissa, I don’t know how the wedding would have gone and I would have been so stressed during the planning process. She is so awesome that she goes out of her way to do things for you (be nice everyone!) and is very responsive. She also helped with the reception layout with my divorced parents who do not get along with other family members and it was a success. MELISSA IS THE BEST!! The venue - BEAUTIFUL. We had our ceremony indoors which was nice because our guests were able to take pictures at the gabezo in the back during cocktail hour. If you do your ceremony outside at the gazebo, the guests won’t be able to have their little photoshoots. The entire venue is gorgeous and every corner is a photo-op. It’s a great venue if you have 150 or less people. The big windows everywhere were just so beautiful. The bridal suite is HUGE and beautiful and the grooms suite is upstairs and has a tv and pool table. Perfect for the boys! The food, bar and DJ - everything was great and explained throughly by Melissa so expectations were set and made based on what tier and package you purchased I did not use the Walter Weddings photographer, florists or cake designer so I can’t speak to that. One downfall was on the day of the wedding with Melissa’s day of partner, Allison. She is super sweet and helped steam my bridal gown and Matron of Honor’s dress, which I’m so appreciative of. But I guess she didn’t communicate well to the staff on what needed to be done that day because there were several mishaps that shouldn’t have happened. The ceremony room was incomplete and she didn’t give me the chance to see how the front tables looked. I purchased 100 of bouquet flowers and ribbons that were supposed to be tied to each seat which I was told could be done since it was a simple task to tie 3 flowers and a bow on each aisle chair. This was not done so that small detail from my ceremony room seem bland and a waste of money. The front tables weren’t done how I wanted and it was chaotic having presents with our guestbook and our wedding sign. We wanted to utilize the buffet type table in the front room for presents so it’s not so cluttered when you walk in. Also, a lot of my items were not used for cocktail hour. After the wedding, I noticed the box was opened but she did not use what I purchase and the display for cocktail hour looked like a “backyard bbq” according to my guests. I was so disappointed because I had custom items and “backyard bbq” did not fit the vibe of “old Hollywood glam” of the wedding. Other than the day of mishaps, I highly recommend doing your wedding at Milestone Mansion Denton and having Melissa as your coordinator. GIVE HER A HUGE RAISE, Walter Weddings!!! “We had the most beautiful wedding at The Boylston Rooms. From the moment we first spoke with Erin and Myles we know this would be the venue we would choose. They saw our vision and really went above and beyond to ensure our special day was perfect. We were thrilled to be able to utilize their massive library of decorations and supplies to avoid having to purchase a ton of decorative elements and we donated the things we did end up purchasing so that they didnt end up sitting in our house (or worse, a landfill!) Myles and Erin both made absolutely certain that we got to enjoy every moment, including our food, and that we got to spend a moment alone together right after the ceremony to celebrate. Alyssa was by my side all day as my biggest cheerleader. I'm an emotional person who doesn't love being the center of attention. She had the most reassuring presence and all kinds of tricks up her sleeve. I will never forget her helping me take deep breaths, holding a cold can of Diet Coke on my chest to help calm me down. The Boylston Rooms made our wedding day so special, and we can't recommend them highly enough. We probably could've had a beautiful wedding anywhere if we had been willing to dedicate our entire lives to it for the year prior or shell out thousands of dollars for a planner and coordinator. But at The Boylston Rooms we didnt have to do either. We had a gorgeous wedding and it was affordable but above all it was effortless. With their help? We would do it again in a heartbeat.”

“We had a fabulous wedding reception at the Donauschwaben German Cultural Center (Lenau Park). Their entire staff—from their awesome coordinator Christine to their banquet captain and bar staff—was so kind, so professional, and most importantly made our guests feel welcome and taken care of. Christine came to every meeting organized and prepared. She understands the details as well as the emotions that go into planning a wedding and was a great part of our support system. She is fair and reasonable—even helped us make a German Hall a little more “Italian” for the bride. We could not have asked for a better partner! As for the venue itself, it was the perfect place to host 300 of our closest friends and family. The space was beautiful, bright and happy. Our guests were comfortably seated at 32 round tables of 8 to 10. The team made all of our décor visions come to life. The outdoor patio was welcoming and comfortable for guests as well. The dance floor is huge! Perfect for an Italian tarantella. I would also say the room is set up well acoustically—with 300 people in the room and music playing, you could still hear the other people at your table. The entryway was also perfect for our receiving line. We were happy to see that guests could enjoy their time—whether they wanted to dance the night away, sit and chat, or just enjoy the night air with family. The food was excellent—seriously excellent. We got so many compliments after the wedding! They have their buffet line down to a science with all of our guests being served in a reasonable amount of time. They also did a great job of meeting the needs of our gluten- and dairy-free guests. That is so hard to do when you are feeding so many people, and even these guests said they enjoyed their meals. Finally, the money we spent on this wedding reception was well worth the value. The food and beverage packages are incredibly fair for the quality and the amount of food your guests will be served. We were also able to add appetizers and some special add-ons at a reasonable rate. The linens are provided by a separate vendor, but even those costs were not too bad, and everything looked beautiful when it was decorated! While there are certain rules the venue must follow and sometimes we needed to negotiate the details, Christine was highly transparent and upfront with us, and always worked with us to find the right solution for our day. After hosting our wedding here, we would absolutely do it again with this space and this team. When it comes to the Donauschwaben, we strongly recommend them for your wedding reception and cannot say enough good things about their level of service!”

“Spruce Mountain was the best venue we could have possibly chosen. My fiancé was sold from the pictures online and when we toured, I spent the whole time just breathless. We were on the upper ranch with the ceremony on Trey's Vista (stunning), cocktail hour in the Spruce Room, and reception in the Ponderosa Room. Communication with them was easy, Tara was our representative and she happily answered all of our questions and communicated seamlessly without overloading our inbox. She even provided me with a preferred vendors list of vendors they have worked with before which created a great starting place for finding vendors. I was a bit skeptical of their requirement of a Day of Coordinator, but I am so thankful that they required it. We didn't have to lift a finger on the wedding day, I wasn't being asked a million questions, it was fantastic. On the wedding day, our property manager came to introduce herself and told us where to find her if we needed her, there was music playing on the TV in the bridal suite, everything was so clean and perfectly set up to start the day. All of our guests could not stop raving about the venue - the views at the ceremony site, having separate spaces for each part of the day, the mix of indoor and outdoor space for the cocktail hour and reception, and so many said "this sets my bar so high for weddings". If I could do my wedding all over again, I would book Spruce with no hesitation!!”
