How much does hair and makeup cost for a wedding?

According to Thumbtack, wedding makeup artists cost $90–$475 per person on average in 2022. Here at Zola, we recommend putting aside around $300 for your own wedding hair and makeup. Services for wedding party members are generally less expensive, as the artist or stylist will spend less time perfecting the look. Be sure to have a transparent conversation with your wedding party if you expect them to cover their own costs.

How long does wedding hair and makeup take to do?

The more involved the look, the more time it will take. In general, allocate 60–90 minutes for your own looks and 30–45 minutes for each member of the wedding party. Extensions, extra thick hair, and intricate makeup all take longer. Communicating who (with pictures and descriptions) is getting what (again, with photos) to your stylists will help them plan an accurate timeline.

Who usually pays for hair and makeup for the wedding party?

Traditionally, whoever is asking for the services should pay. However, this may not be in the budget for every couple. If you’re planning on having your wedding party pay, be transparent when you first ask them to be in the wedding party itself. Then, they can choose whether it’s possible for them to participate.

How much should we tip for our wedding hair and makeup artists?

A good rule of thumb is to tip 15–20%.

“My glam team was Monique and Michelle. They were amazing! It was great to get to meet them and work with them. We did a trial run and it was just beautiful and they accepted and wanted feedback from the trial. They asked for inspiration pictures and were able to achieve the look I was thinking of. As someone with naturally curly hair, looking for a hair stylist that understands and can make my hair look good was something important for me. Prior to wedding day, they asked for inspiration pictures from the bridesmaids. There were 7 girls getting hair and makeup or just one service. The stylist had schedules and we were able to have everyone done in time. We had a great morning with Michelle and Monique and we all looked so great all day long. The airbrush makeup is in fact cry proof. So glad to have found a glam team that was understanding, fun, professional, and amazing !”

Our artists will help you to narrow down your inspiration photos and create the Bridal look you have always dreamed of. Ann prides herself in taking away the stress of wedding morning preparations with beauty services brought to your location and following a timeline customized to meet your needs. Please note that there is a six person hair and makeup minimum (or equal service dollar amount) requirement per booking on Friday- Sunday in April through December.

“Being a curly-haired bride, I was very nervous about finding a hairstylist who could tame my mane for my wedding day. After speaking with Sophia, all of my fears melted away. She reassured me in her abilities to give life to my curls with her tiny curl wand. I don’t think my curls have ever looked better in my ENTIRE LIFE; I cried when I saw myself in the mirror because of how beautiful I looked. My bridesmaids (who have a variety of hair types) had hair that was equally as stunning and were just as pleased as I was. My hair lasted all day (through lots of dancing) and was only held in place by five bobby pins; Sophia is a magician! In addition to her hair abilities, Sophia brought such a positive and warm energy to the bridal suite. She was also incredibly thorough with instructions, information, and schedules leading up to the day. I can’t recommend Sophia enough for hair services!”
