  • Event Planning Mishaps

    TLDR — Tameka is a nice enough person, but she shouldn’t be an event planner. She was hired to plan and operate my partner’s birthday party, and failed in almost every facet of planning. * Initially she had the day of the event wrong — the venue had to correct the date. And because she was behind, she forced us to pay an early deposit (which we never received back) * She was contracted to be at the venue by 12pm but failed to arrive at all * She didnt communicate that she wouldnt be showing up — We only learned of her car trouble when we called her after the venue manager reached out and said she didnt arrive. She did not notify us proactively, even though she was in possession of all of the personalized event items. * She scheduled key vendors (bartenders, cold sparks operator, balloon decorator, cleaners) only on the day of the event, which is unacceptable for an event of this size. The bartender was traveling with her, meaning there was no backup when she failed to arrive. * As a result, we had to take over management of the event, including vendor coordination and setup. We were unable to enjoy the celebration and were forced into the role of planners. Friends were tasked with picking up items in suits and dresses * Family could not get outfits and hair done in time. We ended up ubering around trying to pick up items * The day of coordination was non existent — she found a replacement last minute who was nice, but he did not know what he was doing. * The event was supposed to begin at 7pm, but due to her disorganization, setup was not completed until after 9pm and after guests had already arrived . * Very egregious — she ordered exactly 80 plates for 80 guests, without any buffer, and failed to provide adequate cups and napkins. This is not industry standard and reflects poor planning. Because, what if someone drops a plate? Or gets another cup? Or if there are 81 people at the event? * She did not properly coordinate with the venue manager. For example, cold sparklers were not permitted indoors, forcing a last-minute change to the entrance setup. * She also told us that the venue was supposed to set up the chairs and tables which was not the case, as we ended up doing that * Most egregious — she requested 30 business days, or 6 weeks, to return our funds (not even the full amount of funds). And she did not even return it in the agreed upon time period Again, Tameka is a nice enough person, but event planning is not her calling.

    I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS BUSINESS TO ANYONE! This was, hands down, the least professional experience we've ever had with an event planner. Tameka was hired to plan my sister's birthday party, and throughout the process my sister kept telling me how difficult and unprofessional she was to work with. I honestly thought my sister might've been overreacting -- until the unthinkable happened. TAMEKA DID NOT SHOW UP TO THE EVENT! According to Tameka, the bus she was taking from Virginia to NYC "broke down." She claimed she left at 3am and would arrive in NYC by 9am then be at the venue by noon. Instead, the venue called my sister at 12:30pm asking where Tameka was. Only after my sister reached out did Tameka admit she wasn't coming. Meanwhile, she had EVERYTHING with her: the balloons, the custom décor, the alcohol, the plates -- literally the entire setup. To make matters worse, Tameka wouldn't cooperate when we tried to come up with a plan to get her to NYC as soon as possible. My sister's boyfriend and I ended up scrambling to put the event together ourselves and couldn't even enjoy the party. What was supposed to be an elegant celebration looked like something thrown together last minute, because it literally was. The next day, we called Tameka to get clarity and request a refund. Not only did she refuse one, but we also discovered inconsistencies in her story. She said the bus broke down at 11am -- but if that were true, she should've already been in New Jersey and we could've easily helped her. Instead, she was still 4-5 hours away. Either the bus broke down much earlier than she claimed, or she never left at 3am as she said, meaning she wouldn't have made it to the venue on time anyway. COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!!!! My sister is kind, because most people would have pursued legal action, and they would have every right to do so.

    This was one of the worst experiences i’ve ever had with an event planner. I almost called the police because I thought this was a scam from how terrible everything turned out. My 25th birthday was ruined, and she refused to give me my deposit back! Even after I asked her to refund me what she owed me, she took over a month and kept making excuses about her bank. She only sent me a small portion of what I paid her back because she didn’t agree with me. I should’ve known that she was incompetent from the beginning because her communication was horrible. She only contacted me when she needed more money. I had to be the one calling her and asking her for updates on the event planning. After chasing her down every week SHE DIDN’T EVEN SHOW UP TO THE EVENT. She was supposed to get here extremely early to help set up the venue but left her house hours after she told me. She didn’t even tell me she wasn’t going to come, I had to call her and ask her what was going on because she was running late. She said her bus broke down and refused to get on another bus. I literally had to look up buses and ubers for her and she refused to get on them until this first bus gave her back her money. I even tried to coordinate ride share with my friends that were in the area to pick her up and she still refused because she wasn’t comfortable with that. I had to beg for her to find someone else that could help take over, but my siblings had to run the event instead of celebrating me. I had 80 people fly out and show up to celebrate my birthday and they were disappointed. I ordered a bunch of custom decorations and ended up running around buying alcohol and mixers that she was supposed to provide. I wish I never hired this woman. She has scarred me from ever hosting an event again. I regret not taking legal action on this because I felt bad for her.
